Ryan Lapine is a trial lawyer with significant experience litigating entertainment and complex business disputes. His notable cases include the following:

  • Won a jury verdict in favor of a leading talent manager on breach of contract, fraud and fraudulent conveyance actions against the management company for whom she formerly worked;
  • Won a complete defense verdict after a two-week Federal jury trial for alleged RICO violations and fraudulent conveyances on behalf of the Swiss branch of an international financial institution;
  • Won a dismissal of all claims defending an Internet service provider in a copyright action involving the broadcast of Korean language television shows;
  • Helped a known public figure block the release of a private home video;
  • Won a large settlement for two public figures cast in a false light when their likenesses were used without their permission on a top-rated reality television program;
  • Secured a favorable settlement for a software manufacturer in a trade secret and 17200 action against a competitor and several of its former executives and employees; and
  • Won a dismissal of alter ego claims at an evidentiary hearing on behalf of a real estate developer's estate.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Lapine provides oversight and transactional counsel to sports and entertainment companies, including a 501(c)(3) organization that manages trusts and foundations for athletes and entertainers, the preeminent entertainment-industry sports league, and a large nightlife company.

In 2009, Mr. Lapine was elected to one of ten attorney positions on the California Bar Association's Committee of Bar Examiners. In that capacity, Mr. Lapine oversees the creation, administration and grading of the California Bar Examination, governs all state accredited and non-accredited law schools in California, and rules on moral character applications to the California Bar.

Mr. Lapine received his juris doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law where he was the managing editor of the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal. He earned his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Chicago, after matriculating at Rice University as its Max Roy Presidential Scholar. Mr. Lapine is a Cleveland, Ohio native now living in Hollywood, California.
